BW SUSTAINABILITY

At Bargersville Wellness, we make all decisions with environmental sustainability in mind. Our shampoo bowls feature faucets that have excellent pressure but use less water. We are a certified Green Circle Salon, we compost food with our Lomi Composter, and take out maybe one bag of trash each month. We partner with companies that are B-Corp certified, we have B-Corp mentality for our business practices, and how we consume matters to us and we want it to matter to you! Note, we are NOT a B Corp company but we hope to be one day!

Sustainability, green, eco-friendly, natural, organic; what does this mean for a business?

These words are often used interchangeably and incorrectly, so what do they mean and what do WE mean when we say we are a green, eco-friendly salon using sustainable skin and hair-color products?

Let’s define a few things here:

Natural: natural means found in nature, not made or caused by human kind. In theory, nothing we eat or do is natural. Also, poison oak, stinging nettle, wild parsnips, and poison hemlock are all natural and you really don’t want to be anywhere near any of them ever.

Organic: does NOT mean without use of pesticides. It also doesn’t mean safe. Poison Ivy, spotted water hemlock, and honeysuckle are all organic and natural and they’re all bad for the planet. Generally, an organic product is produced without artificial agents, promotes biodiversity, cycles resources, and promotes ecological balance.

Green/eco-friendly: concerning ALL aspects of environmentally friendly products to include cleaning products, hair color, makeup, business practices (such not using paper forms/receipts and clean energy), etc. Bargersville Wellness is an eco-friendly business. All decisions we make take environmental concerns into consideration first to include shipping, regenerative practices, physical health and safety, carbon offsets, etc.

We use only B Corp products which also consider environmental practices of production and employment for all certified businesses. B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. While we are not a B Corp company, we strive to be one day and operate by their standards to the best of our ability.

Non-toxic: toxic means harmful or dangerous. We use zero products that are harmful or dangerous when used as recommended. They are free of phthalates, parabens, harsh surfactants, DEA, and sulfates (surfactant ingredients). Additionally, our color line is PPD free and ammonia free. Our hair color is safe and non-toxic and studies (although they are limited) show that hair coloring is safe during pregnancy.
It’s worth noting that any chemical in larger or excessive amounts are unsafe and toxic to humans, including water. Chemicals used during color services are absorbed by hair, NOT the scalp or bloodstream.

Chemical: all things are made of chemicals, even water, so anything that boasts being chemical free is just a marketing tactic that often works when it shouldn’t.

Here are companies we use and recommend for a more sustainable home and business:

Lomi in home/office composter

Pela phone cases and sunglasses

Dropps Laundry Detergent

Hello Tushy Toilet Paper and Bidets

Cheeky Panda Facial Tissue

Lola Period Products
